ALEX SHEGELMAN, MBA, CFA

Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Alex is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Everleaf Capital, with over 25 years of experience in investment banking, capital markets, and corporate development. Based in Calgary, he advises companies on mergers & acquisitions, strategic transactions, and capital raising across both public and private markets.

Prior to co-founding Everleaf, Alex held senior leadership roles in investment banking, most notably at Desjardins Securities, one of Canada’s leading financial institutions. He led the team that established the firm’s Calgary oil and gas investment banking office in 2010, building it into a significant and highly active presence in Western Canada. As Head of Energy Investment Banking, he was instrumental in driving growth, including participating in over $6 billion of energy financings in his final year.

Over the course of his career, Alex has led and participated in a broad range of M&A and financing transactions across public and private markets, representing in excess of $20 billion in aggregate value. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, an MBA with Distinction, and is a CFA Charterholder.

MICHAEL SHUMLICH, MSc, CFA

Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Michael has gained significant transaction execution experience over his 25 years in investment banking and corporate development. Having worked at both bank-owned and independent dealers, he successfully executed 45+ M&A and advisory assignments and 110+ financings. Michael also worked in the corporate development and M&A department at Agrium Inc. (now Nutrien Ltd.).

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Distinction, a Master of Science degree, and is a CFA Charterholder. His Master’s thesis was titled “An Attempt to Value Canadian Oil and Natural Gas Reserves: An Extension of the Hotelling Valuation Principle” and was presented at several research conferences.
